Adding Houseplants to your home for Improve Mental Health

Many of us know that plants are good for indoor air quality, they look beautiful and absorb odors other toxins and more. Clients are often stumped at how to incorporate live plants into their interior decor. In comes the many benefits of using a professional Interior Designer!  Home Industry Professionals often attend trade shows that showcase the latest and greatest products for your home or office and have the opportunity to ask questions before implementing these products into our designs. Here are the resources and specific products designer approved items for incorporating house plants into your decor! 

Adding plants to your environment has numerous physical and mental health benefits: 

Green hues are calming on your central nervous system & can reduce resting heart rate

Indoor plants absorb home toxins

Moss specifically has sound absorbing properties that help reduce noise pollution

Tabletop and freestanding plants

The easiest and quickest way to incorporate plants into your home is to add a small potted plant to existing bookcases, shelves or tables. One of my favorite finds at High Point Market this Spring were these unique pots for walls, floors or table top by Pandemic Design Studio. (see pinterest page for more installation images)

Get creative plant stands that help lift your plants off the floor to get more sunlight. 

I love the Dundee and Wesley Plant stands from Crate and Barrel.

Hanging plants

Hanging plants are another great way to add interest to your walls with the added benefit of more natural light for your plants to grow. Here are some of my favorite hanging planters. 

Take it Vertical- adding plants to your walls or other existing infrastructure helps add dimension and color. Using walls space for plants is also great for new homeowners with minimal art collections or those living in a rental property.
